Qotom Mini Q170S (8GB RAM 64GB SSD CPU J3710)

Hello all,

I would like to secure my network at home with Sophos XG. I use a VDSL line from 1and1.

I bought the Zyxel VMG1312-B30A VDSL modem to establish the Internet connection.

Now I am thinking about what I can use as hardware for the XG. In my research in the forum I have often read about the manufacturer Qotom, but also that there are often copatibility problems with the network cards.

Here is a link to my favourite model: de.aliexpress.com/.../32790213756.html

Since I only have one LAN and WAN, I selected a model with 2 NICS.

Are the 2 x Realtek RTL8111E Gigabit LAN compatible with Sophos?

Is the hardware otherwise sufficient to run Sophos XG? We are 4 people at home.

Thanks in advance for your support

Regards
Marc

  • Hi,

that should work okay. What is you wan connection speed? The GUI will be very slow during configuration and make sure you disable speed step.

  • Hello,

    I have a VDSL 50 line.

Where is this speed step to be set?

Is the hardware sufficient for normal traffic or do I have to deal with restrictions in normal operation?

Can the XG also "HTTPS decrypt and scan" like UTM and would the hardware still be sufficient for this?

    Many greetings
    Marc

Depends on what features you're going to use.

Expect around 350Mbit/s with IPS/ATP/AV. (With hyperscan.)

Expect around 120Mbit/s with TLS Decryption with AV/IPS/ATP.

But it will all depend on what kind of traffic is passing through.

Can the XG also "HTTPS decrypt and scan" like UTM

    Yes, with TLS 1.3 support.

would the hardware still be sufficient for this?

You will be heavily limited in throughput because of your processor, but since you have a 50Mbit/s VDSL line, the processor should be able to handle It without issues.

If you can, get a better processor.
