Setting Hostname to XG firewall v18 query

In admin settings I have specified the hostname I would like to use for the XG firewall.

I've then selected: Use the firewall's configured hostname option

I added this hostname and associated IP to DNS host entry setting

However I am not able to access the admin portal. I still need to insert the IP address to access.

What steps am I missing?

  • Affirmative,

Just to add when I ping the host name it doesn't ping, but it does show it resolves to the set IP address, it just doesn't return a response.

The firewall is on the domain it just doesn't point to anything at the moment well except for the UTM. There is a UTM appliance for Web protection, will be replacing it soon with the XG once it is configured like for like for the most part.

Something strange happened recently, I was inserting the Ip address in the Web proxy exceptions box win 10 settings  and I was able to access and then one day nothing, I now have to add my machine ip address to the UTM 9 in order for me to access with the IP address, what is likely to have happened, any ideas?

  • Ok just tried something different, I connected to a server and everything from that server works as it should, so the problem is that individual clients are not able to ping to it.

Doesn't explain why I can still access the admin console using the IP address, but not the host name on these computer clients.

  • if you perform an nslookup for your firewall what is the respnse?

  • Gives me my default server and address of the dns

  • Got it working, had to add an IPv4 unicast route for me to be able to access
