classifying web sites

Hi,

we operate in non-English speaking area where most of web pages are in some other languages. Sophos XG web filter is lacking A LOT of classification on those web pages and current process for classify those is very time consuming. The way we know how. We moved few customers from Fortinet to Sophos XG and learned this in very painful way. So far we have stopped Fortinet replacement with XG

I have put idea on ideas.sophos.com but I have feeling Sophos doesn't pay much attention to that system.

So, question is: Is there a way where users can submit reclassification or unclassified web sites for classification without involving manual work for opening up ticket with Sophos.

Also, Sophos support is very slow these days and this is also causing additional issue.

Thx.

  • the "old" sophos firewall (SG) uses an external database where we (every user) has the option to ask for reclassify the provider.
With XG i don#t know such an option. I think the database is from sophos directly...
I reclassify the webpages (mostly business-partners) locally at my systems.
    (web -> categories -> add -> "my-BusinessPartners")

  • It may work for you but not for us (we tried like you suggested). We have almost all non-english pages not being classified. It is a lof of manual work. Fortinet did classification of the region back in 2003-2004. Sophos can create small workflow on XG which is integrated with their support system+classification DB to eliminate time wasting with this. But Sophos isn't at their best these days.

    Hi ,

Thank you for reaching out to Sophos Community.

You can submit the URL classification request from the below link.

    support.sophos.com/.../filesubmission

  • Hi,

I am aware of this link. Several issues:

    1. It is not part of XG with streamlined process for users to go and fill out the form

    2. Even when we fill out this form, it actually doesn't get classified or it is taking too long. With other vendors it is maximum 24h from time of submission.

In order to make this workable and efficient, you need to create workflow which will work and be resolved in less then 24h.

  • Hello Damiri,

    Thank you for the feedback.

The Labs team in their last announcement mentioned they’re working on a number of projects that will accomplish this. Currently, they’re working on the migration of all products to the new infrastructure to be able to provide a clear and single classification for a URL.

The ultimate goal is to provide an online portal where people can understand the classification and easily submit recategorization requests.

    Regards,

If is not integrated with XG in way to guide endusers towards this, then "džaba krečite" :-), since non-English users won't use this. Bigges issue with XG is actually classification of pages in non-English speaking regions where pages are in local language.

    Any time frame on this?

  • Hello Damiri,

Thank you for your feedback, I will pass it along and check if this planned to be implemented also in the XG itself.
