Sophos XG Home: XG 135w, Testing the Ethernet card FAIL on all Ports

Hi guys,

I had the pleasure on getting my hands on a brand new Sophos XG 135w appliance.
I wanted to upgrade to the Home version.
Tried burning both ISO and DD versions of the v18 on a flash USB drive and installing it, but they did not work.
It was than, when I removed the SATA M.2 drive and wiped it and was able to easily install the SFOS v18 using the USB flash drive.

The issue that I am facing now is that none of my Ethernet ports are working.
Ran "Ethernet Card Test" (https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/125040)
FAIL on all Ports

Please help,

Thank you

  • Hi,

when you were installing the software did the console show you which ethernet ports were being used eg active. Did you have a cable plugged into any port during installation?

Though from your description the XG sounds like it might be faulty.

  • The appliance was working fine out of the box with its stock SFOS 17.5

I had a cable on 1/LAN during the installation.

Should I try installing without any cable attached?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

no the usual way is to install the software with a cable attached that way you know where your initial access will be regardless of port numbering on the box.

What version of software did you use?

  • Hi,

    I have currently installed SW-17.5.11_MR-11.SFW-661.iso

FYI: Under SFLoader Menu most of the ports light up.

    Thanks

  • To add to this thread;

Installed UTM 9.606 and the Ethernet interface worked.
Replaced the M.2 Sata drive with a brand new one and tries SFOS 18. Same issue Ethernet ports would disable after the bios,  registry and integrity checks.

Installed pfsense and all ports are functional.

Not sure what goes wrong every time I try to install SFOS.

  • Hi Keyur,

having followed this thread for awhile I would like to suggest that a DEV be asked to investigate V18 to see why the Sophos hardware NIC drivers do not appear to be installed?
