XG v18 QoS - difference Traffic Shaping and DSCP?

There seem to be two places to configure QoS - DSCP as part of SD-WAN policies and the Priority setting under Traffic Shaping.

Does anyone know how they differ and how they interact?

    Hi,

    your summary is correct.

OK - thanks for the confirmation.

It does, however, beg the question why XG doesn't provide the option to use DSCP internally. I suppose there could be some scenarios where you'd want to be able to prioritize traffic differently internally (although I can't imagine any at the moment), but being able to use DSCP internally would seem to be useful rather than being forced to use TS and DSCP in conjunction with each other.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Cisco support DSCP on the LAN?
  • Hi Arie,

I can see a scenario internal VoIP traffic, video conferencing.

Sure, but why not use DSCP internally for that kind of traffic? In combination with throttling, if desired.

I just don't see the need for two different QoS flag methods.
