Is there an update available, or coming, to update from 17.5.9 / 17.5.10 to v18 without requiring a factory reset?

When I try to manually upload the v18 .sig update file as found on the MySophos Portal to our SG450 (converted over to XG) running v17.5.10, it says in order to complete the update process it will set the configuration back to factory settings... am I missing something?

  • Hi,

v17.5.9 can upgrade to v18 GA-Build#321. However, v18 GA-Build#321 cannot understand v17.5.10 as it is released after v18 GA-Build#321. In such unsupported upgrade cases, webconsole UI warns the user about resetting the device to factory defaults if you force apply the upgrade (the same screen shot that you have attached herewith in the thread).

We will soon release next firmware for v18 GA that can understand v17.5.10 to provide upgrade with configuration migration.

    Thank you.

  • Will there be any future MR10 Release for XG appliances that have enough memory (not only for the small ones)?

  • Looks like the new release to handle upgrade from 17.5.10 has been released, see it on an XG as build 339.

  • But the error remains the same, you cannot upgrade from an active SFOS 18.0.0 GA-Build339 the inactive slot with a SFOS 17.5.9 MR-9 to SFOS 17.5.10 MR-10.

Just tested it on my software appliance at home and also on a hardware appliance in the company.

    Method 1:
Boot SFOS 17.5.9 MR-9 and Upgrade the SFOS 18.0.0 GA-Build321 to SFOS 18.0.0 GA-Build339. That worked.
Then I booted SFOS 18.0.0 GA-Build339 and from there I wanted to upgrade the slot with SFOS 17.5.9 MR-9 to SFOS 17.5.10 MR-10. This did not work.

    Method 2:
Probably I have to boot SFOS 17.5.9 MR-9 and then upgrade directly to SFOS 17.5.10 MR-10. Then boot SFOS 17.5.10 MR-10 and then migrate again from SFOS 17.5.10 MR-10 to SFOS 18.0.0 GA-Build339.

  • Hi!

Any idea or recommendations about update?

Should we go to MR11 or not?

Today I am reading many bugs/fixes and upgrade issues to v.18?

So, please can you recommend steps for upgrading? Now, some clients still have 17.5.9 and it seems stable.

    Thank you in advance!

  • Hi folks,

    my take on the upgrades.

1/. if you wish to upgrade to v18.0.0354 then you can use v17.5.10 it has the migration process builtin.

2/. if you are not using any VPN or form of external access then you can use v17.5.10 and migrate to v18.0.0 354

3/. if you are using any form of external access or VPNs then upgrade to v17.5.11 until the new version of 18.0.1 (MR-1) or what ever it will be called its released it still should contain the updated migration features for v17.5.11.

From other posts the v18.0.0 354 is still available to downl*`oad.
