Is there an update available, or coming, to update from 17.5.9 / 17.5.10 to v18 without requiring a factory reset?

When I try to manually upload the v18 .sig update file as found on the MySophos Portal to our SG450 (converted over to XG) running v17.5.10, it says in order to complete the update process it will set the configuration back to factory settings... am I missing something?

  • 17.5 MR15 is not released.  I suspect you meant MR14.

For anyone currently on 17.5 who wants to go to 18.0, you can upgrade to 17.5 MR14.

"soon" 18.0 MR3 will be released.  You can upgrade to that.
"later" 17.5 MR15 will be released.  When that happens do not upgrade from MR14->MR15 if you plan to then go to 18.0 MR3.  Once you upgrade to 17.5 MR15 you must wait until 18.0 MR4, which may be awhile.

Or to state another way.  Right now upgrade to 17.5 MR14.
If you want to go to 18.0 then upgrade to 18.0 MR3 (available soon).
If you want to stay on 17.5 for a while then upgrade to 17.5 MR15 (available later).

I cannot give timelines, but the current plan is that next thing being released is 18.0 MR3.  The next thing after that is 17.5 MR15.

  • That should not be the Case!

Did you upload and boot the firmware?

Could you send us a screenshot of this?

    The Configuration should be migrated.

  • The screenshots tell the tale.  I did not Click OK at the end because I did not feel like setting this thing back up again...  I think it may be a bug.  The screenshots are in order; note that after the upload of the firmware, it does say it validated the firmware successfully (I didn't catch that when it popped up for a screenshot)...

  • Also, I can report the issue to our TAM (we are a partner) but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something stupid before I bothered him.  If no one sees anything dumb I'll report it through the private Sophos channel(s)...

  • Try to use "Upload and Boot". Will the same message appear?

It is an old issue, that should be fixed in V18.

The case is, that the Upload and later boot option is kinda broken in V17.5.

Upload and boot should the correct approach without this notification.

  • I've never had a problem with doing the firmware update by uploading first, then choosing to boot later (we are a partner, manage a bunch of systems, never an issue)...
