Which Hardware should I use ?

Hello,

iam sorry for asking, but every thread i have read was not up date.

So I would like to ask if someone can recommend some low power consuption Hardware for a Sophos XG firewall.

What are the requirement to the firewall?

- Up to 6 Users surfing

- Web filtering

- Email (IMAP / SMTP) filtering

- establish a ppoe Connection ( 100 / 40 Mbit)

- VPN ( Clients to Server - up to 2 Users at the same time)

- VPN ( Side to Side - one connection)

- VLANS

Thanks for helping

Mario

  • The Qotom Q335G4 is a great option for home use. I’m running the Core i5 -5250U and it easily achieves 1GB throughput without IPS enabled. With IPS enabled, it drops to around 300-400 Mbps for a single connection. I believe the limiting factor is the version of Snort in Sophos XG does not support multi threading. Snort 3.0 or Suricata support multi threading but who knows if/when Sophos XG will implement those.
