Create an isolated VLAN with exceptions

I was hoping that this would be a relatively simple thing to accomplish.

Apologies  if I am missing something basic here.

What I need to accomplish is the following:

I have several LIFX bulbs that seem to be extremely sensitive to multicast messages on the network.

Usage of multicast services like Sonos/Play-fi causes them to drop connectivity randomly.

I was hoping to :

- isolate them from the rest of the network by putting them on a separate VLAN (although on the same physical port)

- Allow exceptions from specific hosts so that the control devices from the primary network can still communicate with them

I created a separate host group for the devices and then created a separate VLAN for them but seem to be unable to assign them anywhere to the new VLAN

Also, assuming I can do the above- how do I setup the above configuration?

  • Hi,

you need a L3 switch to set the VLAN for the ports you have connected the devices to. You can either assign them fixed addresses or create a DHCP server on the XG using a different IP range.

I have my IoT devices in their own isolated  VLAN  on a the same physical port as my other VLANs and devices..

  • Make new zone for them under Network > zones

    under network > interfaces

    Add interface VLAN

Select the port you are using and set the VLAN ID. Select the zone and give the XG its own IP in their IP range.

Setup a firewall rule to allow traffic to or from as you wish.
