Sophos XG in bridge mode brings down network

Hi all,

Following this guide https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/confi...spock-articles I have been setting up Sophos XG for my home.

When it give me choices what I want to enable, e.g. stop malware, dangerous websites, etc. I select them then click save, then the whole network crashes. I get serious complaints from my family.

I want to setup the network as: Plusnet Router ------> Sophos XG ------> Switch -------> Wifi
i
wired Devices

At the moment I have a cable going from the router directly to the switch until I had Sophos setup properly.

But when I click save everything goes down.

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

  • Can you explain in more details "everything goes down"?

    And what do you save?

  • Hi, thanks for your reply.

During the initial setup, it gives you a default selection of I think it was 4 choices for What I wanted to use Sophos for?  Protect users from network threats, protect users from scan files that were downloaded send suspicious files to Sophos sandstorm.

I selected them all and clicked Save.

The internet went down on all devices, wired and wi-fi even though I am bypassing the sophos box with a cable direct from the router to the switch.

    Thanks

  • Better do not use the wizard in such cases.

Do not select everything - instead just leave everything untick and create rules by yourself.

But sounds like you are creating some kind of a loop.

Can you explain in more details your network?

  • The way I want it setup is the sophos box sitting in between, the router and the switch.  With the wifi and wired devices connected to the switch.  I have two NICs inside the sophos box the onboard NIC is a 192.168.*.* and is connected to the LAN switch, the PCIe NIC is on a 192.168.*.* IP (I changed it from the Sophos console) and is connected to the router.

At the moment to not have any disruption for my family, I still have wifi enabled on the router (which I will disable when the sophos box is setup and just use the wireless access point) and I have a cable running from the router to the switch bypassing the sophos box until it is setup.

Can I restart the initial setup?
