XG 125 - where are my physical ports in admin?

I support a small biz am struggling my way through an XG125 (SFOS 17.1.3 MR-3) setup that is replacing an old SonicWall. I am trying to add our secondary WAN to create a fail-over WAN.

Articles such as https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/123096 and https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/132792 show images of ports that mine does not appear to have. I have plugged the secondary WAN into port 4 and am expecting to see at least an unbound port, yes? Instead I get:

How do I make port 4 show up? All I see is "Add Interface" with Bridge, VLAN, etc.

Is there a very basic manual I should be referring to? At this point I feel I have jumped into the deep in from the Sonicwall and maybe we bit off more firewall than we need.

  • The point is. You build up a bridge. Properly in the wizard. There is a point in the XG wizard, where you can select all ports to bind them into one bridge (br0). Per default the wizard will select all interfaces and bridge them together. This is explained in the wizard in some kind of plain text above.

Now you have to "unbind" the interfaces out of the bridge. Basically edit br0 and "delete" all interfaces, you do not want in the bridge.

  • Thanks for the reply. I will attempt this after hours.

We've had some odd issues with this firewall, like half our PCs showing up with "no internet connection" after it was deployed, although they were able to access the Internet.

Also the local cable company engineer with 29 years of experience said our XG 125 was knocking out the cable modem's downstream channels. He showed me visually on his system utility where the channels would vanish when they plugged the WAN into the XG 125. When we unplugged the WAN (or plugged it into the Sonicwall) the downstream channels re-appeared.

  • "no internet access" means most of the time some kind of DNS issue.  https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-networking/no-internet-access-but-internet-is-working/41967ae9-3528-4518-b28e-ab3740a80e15

About the downstream channels... I am not quite sure about this. Do you use XG with the DSL modem? Or just the PPPoE and some kind of modem?

  • Hi all,

Sophos seems to have a great community indeed.

I was hoping you could help me solve a similar issue. I am also not seeing the "other port" for connecting the cable from our other ISP. When you say unbind, can you help me bit more? More details would be helpful.

I am currently doing a fresh new setup so would be great if could help me properly set it up from the start.

Also both our ISPs require us to login (once in a while) in a login page. Is there a way I can configure Sophos to do this login automatically?

  • Best way is to start another Thread in this Community to split up this.

You should use Screenshots, so we can help you easily.

    About this bridge.

This should be your current status.

If you click on those three lines.

If you edit this bridge, simply remove the wanted port of this list and save the bridge.

XG will remove this Port from the bridge and let you reuse it.

  • Thanks. I was able to fix it based on your inputs.
