Reboot/Shutdown HA

Hello Franchesco Alba,

When XG is configured in HA (Active-Active or Active Passive) and if the primary appliance is rebooted or shutdown due power failure, firmware upgrade, force reboot or shutdown command by administrator or any HA monitored interface gets physically disconnected, auxiliary will automatically  promoted to primary.

Hi Ronak Sheth, thank you for your answer. 

Then the best way to shutdown/reboot the Cluster is to shutdown the auxiliary device then reboot the primary device? Is it correct?

Why would you want to do that? Why HA when you don't want the auxiliary device to take over?

Thanks for you answer. 

Because I know that sometimes problems may happen and is necessary reboot the appliances. 

For example: One time happen that Sophos isn't classified the urls as blocked. The porn sites aren't block and I don't know what was happening. Then I reboot the XG Appliance and the blocking became to work. 

This is the main reason to reboot the cluster.

But why not reboot auxiliary device and then primary device? This gives one short interuption and most people won't complain about downtime? This is the way I would do it.

Thank you. I agree with you. Reboot the auxiliary and quickly reboot the primary. All connections will be flushed. 

I have other question, in Active/Passive. The primary was shutdown and the auxiliary take over. When I turn on the appliance was shutdown, this appliance will boot as auxiliary and keep as auxiliary or will boot as auxiliary and in the next hours take over and became as primary ?

Hello Franchesco Alba

Say if your device 'A' is primary and you reboot or shutdown it your auxilory device 'B' will be promoted to primary and will remain primary till it does not fail.
