ISO missing bootable flag

Hi all,

I've finally found some time to set up an VMware (6.7) server and was about to install XG Home 17.1.2 on it which I downloaded a couple of days ago. I've been trying all kinds of things to get it to boot from the ISO without success. I've redownloaded the XG home edition to make sure it was not iso related. It turns out that there is a bootable flag missing.
I was able to successfully install OPNSense for example.

See the output below:

$ file SFOS_OSS-17.1.2_MR-2-225.iso OPNsense-18.7-OpenSSL-dvd-amd64.iso "SFOS_OSS-17.1.2_MR-2-225 (1).iso"
SFOS_OSS-17.1.2_MR-2-225.iso: ISO 9660 CD-ROM filesystem data 'CDROM'
OPNsense-18.7-OpenSSL-dvd-amd64.iso: ISO 9660 CD-ROM filesystem data 'OPNSENSE_INSTALL' (bootable)
SFOS_OSS-17.1.2_MR-2-225 (1).iso: ISO 9660 CD-ROM filesystem data 'CDROM'

Please advice how to proceed. I can't imagine this has always been the case..

Kind regards.

  • Hello Alda,

I think that for the HW appliance it's just a code upgrade and not a clean boot. The data is there, but it's just missing some boot options in the ISO. This is relevant for (clean) machines that need to boot right off that ISO, such as virtual machines etc.

The image you refer to is the exact image I've tried above. Could you perhaps verify if it does contain boot options with either the 'file' command or some other option under Windows?

  • Hello Axel Robbe,

today I downloaded three ISO files: HW-17.1.2_MR-2-225.iso , SW-17.1.2_MR-2-225.iso , VI-17.1.2_MR-2.VMW-225.iso then the first of them I burned to a DVD drive and installed the v17.1.2 MR2 to XG105 with it.

It's not the first time then I installed the firmware from a DVD drive to the HW appliance and all happened as before.

!!! Please re-check the file names I downloaded because you, Ashok and Sid, have used a different ISO file for installation - SFOS_OSS-17.1.2_MR-2-225.iso !!!

I think you need to download the correct ISO file and everything will be fine ...

    ;-)

    Regards

    alda

P.S.For your peace of mind I can try to install the virtual ISO VI-17.1.2_MR-2.VMW-225.iso to an ESXi server and send you video from the installation. I think everything will work as well ...
