Load Average

Hey guys,

Each night at somewhere between midnight and 2am my XG load average spikes.

We are not here at night so no users would be in the system and I cant think of any batch jobs etc that might run at 12 - 2am.

How can I find out what is loading the XG up at this time each day?

Running an XG230 with latest Firmware. I do have a couple of Web Policies and IPS policies running  - but again weird its in the wee hours when traffic should be at its lightest.

  • Hi Ian,

I had a look at my XG and the spikes occur around report and backup generation times. I have a daily backup generated.

The spike doesn't show in the load, just the CPU graph though.

  • Thanks Ian,

I only have a weekly back up to email set on a Monday night at about Midnight.

    No scheduled reports.

Its weird though as its a wee spike daily at the lowest point when no users would be online.

  • Hi Ian,

I suspect you have already reviewed your network graphs in the same report and can see nothing obvious.

Now from memory you use STAS, does your fileserver do any updates, purges and regenerate tables it downloads to the XG at that time of night?

  • Thanks Ian,

The WAN Interface is very quiet at those times:

STAS is running but nothing set to Purge etc and as far as I can recall there are no settings for STAS.

I do have a File Server that backs up LAN - LAN but wouldn't hit the XG as its over a Layer 3 switch - this does it around 7pm.

I really cant find anything that runs locally at this time.
