utm 9 Migration to XG

Hello,

Two questions:

1. Is there a migration tool for migrating rules from UTM9 to XG?

2. We origially were on XG and down graded to UTM 9 becase the XG platform had a lot of issues, that was 2 years ago. Any opinions on the XG platform now?

Thanks,

Kevin

    That's a loaded question around here [:D]

My general observation is legacy UTM people hate XG.  People from other platforms vary in their opinion.  I come from Microsoft ISA/TMG and Cisco Meraki background and I think XG is generally a good product and I like it (logically its organized a lot like ISA/TMG was, and its vastly more powerful than Cisco Meraki MX firewalls).  I admit there are some rather baffling things missing (no DHCPv6-PD support, no anti-port scan, etc), and I think almost everyone would agree that the IPSec woes in v17 have been a disaster, luckily for me I moved from IPSec to RED before v17 came out.

In short, I recommend it to people, but be prepared for the occasional head scratcher.

  • Kevin,

migration tool is in beta and available to only few users. XG improved a lot but still some basic features are missing. Try it in a lab for 30 labs and check if it meets your needs.

but from what I read in these forums about the differences between UTM and XG,

and given the myriad options that these two have,

I cannot see a way a migration tool will ever be anything more than an experiment,

For me better to build the firewall from the beginning than migrate

  • Hi,

I am a home user with advanced skills and I would like to test the migration tool. Please provide me a download link.
