Sophos Mobile Control IOS Locate

I am unable to get IOS devices to return their location. Works fine on android but on IOS devices, the location services kicks in (can see the compass icon near the battery icon) but nothing returns and if I am in the Sophos Mobile Control app on the phone, it returns 'err_request_400'.

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Sorry, forgot to add, all other functions appear to be working correctly, happening on multiple IOS devices
  • Hi Chris,

there is currently a known issue with locating iOS devices.
We hope to get an updated version out as soon as possible. Currently, we are awaiting the confirmation from Apple to publish the update.

  • Hi

I am using the mobile control as part of the cloud solution.  The loctate device works so long as everything is configured correctly and the user doesn't shut down the control app. There needs to be a way of auto starting the control app when the phone is powered on and preventing the user from shutting the app down.

    1. The "Control" app must be running in the task switcher
To achieve this, user have to open the application once and let the app synchronize with the configured SMC server.
Once this was done the app should be closed by pressing the "Home" button once. This way, it is sent to the background but not terminated completely.
Note: When the device is turned off, all applications running in the background are terminated. After restarting the device, the app must be started once again and be set into the background

I have configured the iPhones so that location services are always turned on and the user cannot change that setting.  Did that through the privacy settings.

It's all pointless if we need to reply on the operator to start the control app and leave it running.

  • Hi Stuart,

yes we are aware of that limitation, but as far as I know, there is currently no other technical solution we could use as that is the only possibility Apple provides.
To get the user to run the app, you could define the compliance setting "if the iOS app did not sync in the last x days"  so the device will become non-compliant if the app hasn't synchronized.

  • Dear Chris,

It's looking MDM based problem. Can you upgrade your MDM version to 7.0.10?
