Catastophic Failure Message When Attempting a Scan with ESC 10.3

I had to re-install Sophos last week on my Windows 7 system (Full admin rights, but it was blocking a port I needed opened), and I accidently removed the products in the wrong order. Once I discovered that error, I manually removed the \sophos directory, and then re-installed EndPoint Security and Control 10.2, which was then updated automatically to 10.3 by my server.

Now, the product says it is installed and updated, but when I try to either schedule or run a scan, I receive a message stating that "Sophos Endpoint Security and Control has encountered a problem and needs to close"

The error information when I try "Scan my computer" says:

Description: Unable to run saved scan.

Error Message: Catastrophic Failure

Source: CMainFrame.onRunDefaultScan, line1242

Parameter: No parameter available

(Call stack data not included in this posting, sorry!)

I can't set up  a new scan, either. When I try that:

Description: Error returned from GetConfigObjects.

Errir Message: Catastrophic Failure

Source: CScanEditView::GetTenokateExclusions, line 1384

Parameter: No parameter available

I've checked the registry for errors, plus performed a "clean" install from the full source kit, several times, and flushed my system cache. All the Sophos services are shown as running.

Am I missing a step somewhere?  Suggestions are most welcome!

  • There is nothing Sophos-specific in that branch.

    Note:  I can't be too specific as roaming profiles and/or GPOs you may or may not have need to be considered.  If you compare a working computer to the affected one and 'spot the difference' hopefully you should be able to add in the ones that are missing.
