Windows 7 Action Center and Sophos

Hey guys! I am new to the forum. I apologize if this question has been asked. So a few of us in the office are running Windows 7. We use Sophos and it is up to date. In the Action Center it claims that Sophos is out of date when literally 5 minutes ago Sophos checked for and installed an update, Is there a fix for this?

  • Hello Franchise,

Is there a fix for this? - a fix for what? An invalid claim by Action Center? Sophos Status Reporter not informing Action Center? Or Sophos installing an antediluvian update? - Only partially kidding :smileywink:

Are you in charge of your Sophos installation? If not - what does your Sophos administrator say about it?

If - which Windows 7 and which Sophos version, details?

  • We're seeing the same thing at my company with Win7 & SEC9 (currently running the fixed version of 9.0.4).  We saw this with 9.0.3 & updating to 9.0.4 cleared the warning (at least temporarily).  I'm waiting for it to reoccur under 9.0.4 in order to capture & submit logs to support.

This is an acknowledged issue with Vista & version 7

  • Thanks for responding guys. We have Windows 7 32bit, and Sophos version 9. Same as you JasonC.

I am new at my company, but i will be in charge of Sophos administration. We had a couple users calling us to see if there was something wrong when Action Center notified them that they were out of date.

We would like to get Sophos and Action Center to "sync up" IF possible. We were just curious if other people had this issue and what they did to fix it. We don't want to have to disable Action Center, we just want it to work cleanly with Sophos.

    Thanks for the link JasonC

  • Didn't happen here AFAIK (but then we've only about a dozen of Win7 clients) and we've gone all the way from 9.0.1 to 9.0.5. If you also want to collect the logs, Franchise, please see: Sophos Diagnostic Utility (SDU): how to download and install

  • You need to check that the Sophos Anti-Virus status reporter service is started.

This is the service that communicated to the Windows Security Center.  If it is still saying you are out of date then check the date of the latest IDE file in location C:\Program Files\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus. If it is more than a day old then the CID the client is updating from could be not up-to-date. You would then need to check the Sophos Update Manager in the console to see if the CID is up-to-date .

  • 140909 Hi! Sophos and Windows Action Center do not play ball. But how do we remedy that? Every time we start up our network computers we get a message from Windows Action Center: "Find an virus program online" Windows did not find any virus program on this computer. Click to find a program online." Is Sophos actually working? 100%? Allt the time? How do we know for sure? Why does Windows Action Center warn us?
