EC 5.2.0 Installation Failed: Unable to install Management Server

I'm currently trying to migrate Enterprise Console 5.2.0 across to a new server.

Following http://www.sophos.com/en-us/medialibrary/PDFs/documentation/sec_52_mgeng.pdf but have got stuck trying to install the Management Server.

I've managed to get as far as step 9 "Install Enterprise Console server and console components"

But now getting message in the installer saying the MSI terminated unexpectedly and an event log entry stating "Product: Sophos Management Server -- 1: Certificate not found."  (Event ID 1013).

error logs show "Installation success or error status: 1603."

**

I'll add that I'm using the Company Certificate as exported from the previous Enterprise Console install, not a mso.p12 file as mentioned in the guide. Not sure if there is a difference

Any suggestions on what might be causing this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

  • Hello  Alasdair,

the MSO (Master Security Officer - in principle the Safeguard administrator) and Company certificates are not the same. The MSO Certificate and Private Key (mso.cer and mso.p12) are AFAIK only backed up during initial installation (Chapter 8, item 5.g unostentatiously states: On the Sophos Encryption page, click New installations if you do not have an earlier version of Sophos Disk Encryption installed on the network. You are prompted for the password for the certificates backup store. Make a note of the password.)

If you did not make a note of the password better contact Support (or else you could try the SafeGuard board).

  • Thanks Christian,

I did a bit of searching and found what must have been the MSO certificate just not called mso.p12 though.

I then played a game of guess the password and eventually guessed correctly.

    Enterprise Console is now installed.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
