EM Console - Update Manager Errors

I'm using EM Console 5.2.2 and have run into a problem with clients being unable to update from a Web CID.

I'm afraid the information that follows won't be specific enough to indicate the precise problem, but I hope it will do for a start.

Clients get the Cannot Contact Server error and the Update Manager shows an error deploying to a share (Uexpected error. Details: boost::filesystem::exists).  The Update Manager also shows "Threat Detection Data Update Failed" and indicates the last update was 3 weeks ago.

In the Update Manager details I see only errors 8040401 and 8040404, nothing more specific.  The last successful software download was today but then I still see 8040401 and 8040404 (software update failed, threat detection data update failed).

However, both the local CID and the remote Web CID look up to date - at least they've got IDE's dated today and earlier.

All was working fine until 3 weeks ago and I had made no configuration changes before the errors began to appear.

Any suggestions as to troubleshooting steps will be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Steve

  • Hello Steve,

clients not able to update for three weeks?

    boost::filesystem::exists

IIRC it should mention an object (file) which it doesn't expect to find. Might be a glitch. If you're not sure post a snippet from the SUMTrace log where it displays the error. I'd stop the SUM service and try to delete the file and if this fails, reboot the server.

  • Thanks.  I had been pretty negligent with respect to my Sophos Endpoint Security and Control while dealing with some other pressing issues.  It alswyas works so well that I've tended not to keep as close an eye on it as I should.  In any case, I ended up creating a new share on the web server and all seems to be going along all right now.  I first tried deleting files in the current share and came across one that I couldn't delete in AutoUpdate\de.  Don't know if that could be be involved, but the new share seems to be working.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  • Hello Steve,

there's a similar issue in Software update failed on changing license (although the files involved were of type .URL). As said, likely a glitch (you've obviously worked around).

  • Thanks - I'll check that out!  I'm back up and running after recreating the share but I will definitely gather as much information as I can about dealing with issues such as this!

    Thanks again,

    Steve
