Brute Force Uninstall?

I'm having a issues on a few (~100) computers that seem to not have installed Sophos correctly. Our team has had difficulty in uninstalling Sophos from some of these machines. Is there a brute force uninstall that we can use? I have heard of there being one... It would be very helpful for us, as some of the installations will not update or uninstall. They just seemingly get "stuck" and fail to enable things like the firewall, which leaves us little access.

  • I've had great success (90 percent or higher) with problem installs running Revo Uninstaller and removing the individual SOPHOS components when necessary.

  • Hello kbkg,

you must have thousands of computers if you call hundred a few :smileywink:!

Joking aside. For the computers managed (all the installation, not only Sophos) by us the rate of such errors is less than 1% per year. In the majority of cases the issue is not with Sophos alone but caused by some quirk which affects other components as well. And while the error might be correctable as far as Sophos is concerned it's better to tackle the underlying problem.

It's perhaps a matter of taste but I'd use a brute force uninstall (whatever that signifies exactly) as one of the last resorts and only after at least partially assessing the problem. Whether Microsoft's Fix-It or a third party's product, they can't guarantee to revert the machine to a clean state - and they can't prevent further occurrences if there is a "systematic" cause.

    Just my two cents
