Migrating enterprise console 4.5 to a new server

I am tasked to migrate or setup a new enterprise console on a new server which is running windows 2008.

current version is 4.5.1.0 on windows 2003.

i have abt 300 workstations on the console.

my boss is telling me that he believed the current EC 4.5 is compromised.

is it a good way for me to install the latest version which is 5.2 on the new server and setup everything from scatch ??

or should I migrate to 4.5 and then upgrade to 5.2 ??

  • Hello yeowkm,

the current EC 4.5 is compromised

in what way - can't be just the issue described in your other post, can it? But anyway, doing away with 4.5 might  be a good idea. While the recent thread HELP! Migration to new Server & Upgrade SEC 4.0.x to 5.x was started because of an issue I've briefly addressed migrate vs. scratch there - so please have a look and feel free to follow up if you have additional questions.

  • i can scanned my AD for all workstations and servers to be mamanged by the new EC.

  • Hello yeowkm,

if Protect computers (i.e. you can push the install from SEC) does work it's probably fastest to install the new console, "discover" your endpoints from AD, set up groups and policies and then (re-)protect the endpoints from the console.

  • how can i export the rules and policies out from ver 4.5.

  • Hello yeowkm,

all the information is in the database. You can neither selectively export/import "parts" of the database nor import policies (which you can export as XML files) with the following exceptions:

Windows exclusions for On-Access from the AV policy

    (a complete) Firewall configuration

    Data Control rules

Which policies/rules are you thinking of? Unless you have an, if I may say so, excessive amount re-creating them is not a Herculean effort and is a good opportunity to revise them to accord with the latest features and recommendations.
