Visual C++ Runtime Error

Hi,

I've recently noticed that while browsing webpages i get the following error being displayed,

SophosError.png

At the same time the following error is logged in the Application log under Event ID 100,

Faulting application name: swi_service.exe, version: 3.2.101.0, time stamp: 0x510feb76

Faulting module name: swi_service.exe, version: 3.2.101.0, time stamp: 0x510feb76

Exception code: 0x40000015

Fault offset: 0x00070138

Faulting process id: 0x9e8

Faulting application start time: 0x01ceb6007f08e660

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\Web Intelligence\swi_service.exe

Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\Web Intelligence\swi_service.exe

Report Id: db661603-2436-11e3-a189-005056c00008

The Web Intelligence Service then seems to restart.

Is this a known issue? If not, is there anything i can do to resolve this?

Thanks,

Gareth

Sort of.  We haven't had many reports - very few in fact.

I've searched around for information on this.  It seems that a later/latest version of endpoint software may help - you're running 3.2.101.0 according to the error posted.  I've checked my computer:

Try upgrading a computer experiencing the problem and see if that resolves it.

If not Technical Support can troubleshoot further but they'll need logging (we do have a debug version of the swi_service.exe process.  They may even need a procdump of swi_service too.  If necessary open a ticket, attach an SDU output and quote WKI87030 speed things up.

  • Thanks, i'll try that. Also, just for info it seems to have coincided with us installing the Microsoft SCCM 2012 client on the computers. We'd never seen the issue before this point.

  • I'm hunting around for info on this SCCM 2012 client software and have found this page: endpoint-protection-2012.  Is that what's installed along with SAV?  That page says...

Microsoft System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection (previously known as Forefront Endpoint Protection)

Forefront is mentioned in the article listing conflicting applications (Possible interactions between third-party products and the Web Protection feature in Endpoint Protection v. 10.0).

Do you happen to know what the Microsoft SCCM 2012 client is called in add/remove programs?
