Strange behaviour after migration

Hi,

I just tried to migrate a SEC 5.1 from a Windows 2003 Server (32 Bit) to a Windows 2008 Server (64 Bit). I strictly followed the migration guide http://www.sophos.com/en-us/medialibrary/PDFs/migration/sec_51_mgeng.pdf but once I start SEC I get an error message just for a fraction of a second (I had a really hard time making a screenshot so that I could actually read it...) and after that I can't click anything on the SEC window - including the cross to close it! (The window just doesn't get focussed at all!) The only way to close it is to use the task manager - which in turn works like a charm.

So here's the screenshot of the error message:

Of course I followed the link, but that doesn't help me.

Now, I must admit that I made a little mistake during migration. When it came to modifying registry keys I was supposed to insert "Wow6432Node" in some keys and I did insert "WOW6432Node" which lead to a registry node like

[HKLM]\Software\Wow6432Node\Sophos\WOW6432Node\

I was not at all aware that registry keys are case sensitive!

Now, I hopefully corrected that mistake but the behaviour didn't change...

Any help would be appreciated...

Thomas

  • Hello Thomas,

the notification window should actually be in front of the main window - which is blocked by the pop-up. Maybe minimizing/restoring the console via the taskbar can "unhide" it.
Are you sure you have the keys correct now as SUM obviously still thinks it's not yet configured?

There's no way to minimize the EC window as it doesn't get focussed. I can't even close it using the task bar. :-(

The only thing I'm absolutely sure fairly confident is that I followed the instructions correctly. Where could I look for a possible mistake?

  • Hello Thomas,

can't say if the "layering" issue is a bug in SEC. Also I have no idea what it is looking for at this point (and why this whatever hasn't been migrated).

To overcome the blocked window I'd try with a remote console - it might behave differently than the local oe on the server.
