Sophos Update Manager Failed To Update

It appears that our Update Manager updated to version 1.5.0 last week and we have not had a successful update since.

           and it continues like this since 18/11/13.

Reading the forums, I am not alone in this problem.  However, different people seem to have had different solutions.  I have tried changing the self update from '1-recommended' to '1.5.0.362', but nothing changed.  My subscription is on recommended.  I can force an update with the same result as scheduled updates.

The subscription status downloads successfully every hour which would suggest the license is ok, but the software update and threat detection data update fails.

What other solution could I try?

  • Try and find a more precise error using the Logviewer.exe program.  See the bottom of article 66111.

    if I'm not misreading the snippet you posted it did update successfully at 11:20:46 - did the problem recur since then?

  • It has worked!

    I retried the resolution someone else posted.  I changed the '1 Recommended' to '1.5.0.362' and forced an update.  This time it did download the binaries and updated successfully.  I have now changed it back to '1 Recommneded' and will watch to ensure it continues to update.

    There is sadly a lag in the forum, so I was unable to update this thread.

       Can you link to the resolution that worked for you? I also havce an Update Manager that has not updated in over 72 hours but have no errors I can see.

  • Hi.  I have been searching again, but can't find the forum post that the solution was in.  It doesn't help how busy the forum is today.

    I have no idea why the solution works, but it did for me.  It appears to be a "feature" in the updated update manager, but that also might just be coincidence rather than the cause.

    I still have a problem with the altrnate update manager not updating, but I am working on that.  If I find the original solution I will link to it.
