help with configuring Mac client v9

When I copy Sophos Anti-Virus.mpkg down from the server (from the ESCOSX folder) and install it (want to use it as managed version), the name and passwords for both the primary and secondary servers are blank.  Can anyone tell me know to insert the name and passwords back in?  I want the names and passwords already filled in when SAV is installed.  Again, this is for Sophos for Mac v9.0.7.  Thanks.

  • Any Sophos experts out there?  Seems like a pretty basic question.  I just want to create a managed client so that when users download and install it, the credentials are already filled in and they can do updates.  I followed this article, http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/119791.aspx and created the grouppath.plist but without any credentials filled in, I can't do any updates. The installer is the Sophos Anti-virus.mpkg package from the ESCOSX folder from the server.  If I'm approaching this all wrong, please let me know.  Thanks.

  • Hi Nutz,

    Thank you for the post, you will need to take a look at the below KBA which details how to pre-configure the installer with the updating credentials;

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Scott,

    I tried http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/119744.aspx already.  Unfortunately, this is only for the standalone installer, which is not managed.  For the managed client, we have to use the installer within the ESCOSX folder on the server and that one doesn't let you insert the credentials like the standalone installer.

  • Thank you for the reply, we have some internal documentation on this, can you please raise a case with us and a member of our team can get this information out to you.

  • Can someone actually confirm that there is an "internal document". I've been asking them for a guide on doing exactly what the OP is requesting. With version 8 ending support in April this is kind of a cruical matter. I have an ongoing email thread with a sophos rep dating back to october requesting a guide or doc of some sort on howto do this since they discontinued the SUM for Mac and as of last week there is no document. I was told they would have this ready by early 2014.

  • I got this working a few weeks back so just want to share this in case others are still having issues configuring the Mac client for v9.  I ended up using the grouppath method http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/119791.aspx.  I had to use the fqdn in order for it to work.  That may not be the case for some of you but that got it working for me.  I was just using the SophosServerName in the beginning and it did not work.  After I changed it to SophosServerName.example.com, the client pulled down the credentials and settings.  Also, I couldn't use the default "Unassigned" group.  I had to create a new group for this.  Hope this helps.

  • Hello Nutz,

    I couldn't use the default "Unassigned" group

    use it for what (I might not understand you correctly).? The Unassigned group is the one a client will be put into unless a valid grouppath is specified. The name Unassigned has (perhaps a deliberate pun) two meanings: Endpoints in this container have not been assigned to a group, and no policies are (can be) assigned to this pseudo-group. The reason for the latter is simple: Endpoints whose group is deleted must end up somewhere but likely they have already policies assigned. The move to a catch-all container must not result in a reset to a potentially inappropriate policy.
