After Sophos install web enabled apps not working and Win services tool is blank....

Deploying Sophos to Windows 7 computer via SEC 5.1.  After the install a business application called ExactMax quits working.  If I try to open up windows services I get a blank window with a gear (Pic attached).  I've disabled all of the features of Sophos from the SEC which are reflected on the client after a restart but still not working.

This is happening to all Windows 7 machines I deploy to.  I have fixed one by uninstalling Sophos, uninstalling IE 9, reinstalling IE 9, and reinstalling ExactMax.

I spent over an hour on hold with Sophos and never spoke to anyone so I opted for a call back.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this?

  • Hi,

These sort of problems tend to be related to the way security applications "hook" into the system potentially causing two applications to conflict.

SAV "hooks" in a few places that are worth investigating in relation to this:

I would suspect the most likley "hook" here is detours but the LSP shouldn't be rulled out.

I don't have/recognise "ExactMax" but does it help if you remove Sophos detours loading into processes?  To do so I suggested something similar here:

    /search?q= 34453

Maybe another piece of software on the comptuers also has a detours entry in the key AppInit_DLLs, which causes a conflict?  This is somewhere to start.

Have you tried stopping/disabling the Sophos services one by one to see if there is a specific service causing the problem?

    Regards,

    Jak
