"Updating: Failed" since the last 3 days

I have attempted to figure this out from numerous previous posts by comparing trace logs, but I am unable to put my finger on the problem.

Please help!

Note:

- I installed this product from the installer provided by my University, it was working and updating fine for more than a month on my Windows 8 Pro x64.

- 3 days ago, the little red X appeared on the tray icon, and never went away.

My latest Update Trace Log in the next post (due to 20k character limit) Thanks.

  • Christian,

    Thanks for the prompt feedback.

The failed installation seems to be because of a Permission issue on C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu.

Not the first time I've seen this, it's an annoying and recurring problem I'm facing with Windows 8 ever since TrustedInstaller took over permissions of my C drive, and I'm getting 'Access Denied' errors when I attempt to take ownership/edit permissions of the relevant folders. I won't go into this here, it's not the relevant forum.

I tinkered with Ownership and Permissions settings and eventually what worked was changing permissions for C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu. to be accessible to Everyone.

Giving permission to groups Application Packages, Administrators, SYSTEM still resulted in a failed install of SAVXP, it finally went through only when I gave full control to Everyone. This was OK on my personal laptop which no one else uses, but this solution might not be the most desirable if the computer has multiple user accounts.

    Thanks for the help!
