AV updating when not connected to network.

HI,

Can you confirm, should the IDEs and AV signatures update on their own via Sophos without being on the company network needing to be connected to the SUM?

  • Hello fvd_rs,

should the IDEs and AV signatures update on their own

well, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by update on their own. For AutoUpdate to work you have to configure an update location and you can have two of them. If the Primary can't be contacted AutoUpdate tries the Secondary if configured. The Secondary can be set to Sophos (and needs your license credentials) - there's no inbuilt implicit fall-back.

  • Hi,

Yes this is what I meant.  Is there a way to check it is actually upating via the Sophos (secondary location) if the primary isn't available?

  • Hello fvd_rs,

a way to check it is actually updating via the Sophos (secondary location)

usually only on the endpoint. The updating log (View updating log from the GUI's Home screen) names the location in the Downloading product message. Please note that the minimum interval for downloading from Sophos is one hour, if your regular interval is less than that, you will see Download of XXXX failed for the Primary and skipped for the Secondary (Sophos) in between. Note also that RMSNT will never be downloaded from Sophos and the icon will eventually show an updating failed indication.

This is what I get from a laptop updating remotely.  Is it updating at least the AV signatures, which is what I am concerned about?

    thanks

  • Hello fvs_rd,

looks like it's working, although for this check there were no updates (therefore it says "skipped" for the SAVXP and AutoUpdate installs).
