Sophos Endpoint 10.3 Preventing Internet Access On Windows 8.1 Machine

Hi,

I'm having difficulty with Sophos Endpoint 10.3 on a Windows 8.1 machine where I can't access the internet once installed.  When I de-install the software, internet access returns.

How do I cure the problem, apart from using an alternative anti-virus solution?

  • The most obvious cause I can think of is that you installed the Sophos Client Firewall component along with Anti-Virus etc. and that switched on and does have any exceptions set (or maybe no configuration at the moment).

Try switching the policy off as a test, apply to the right group (containing the W8 computer) and seeing if internet access is restored.  Example:

    allow_all_traffic.gif

...and if that fixes the problem see the following article for more information on deploying the Sophos Client Firewall (SCF)...

Tip:  Before too much troubleshooting and testing try a reboot of the W8 computer early on just to rule that out.

  • Hi Ruckus,

After speaking to your technical support team this morning, it would appear that the 10.0.0 version of the firewall doesn't support Windows 8.1, but will when 10.0.3 is released in June 2014.  The chap on the helpdesk very helpfully suggested a work around to use standard Windows firewall in the meantime until you get the new version rolled out.
