What makes you think it could be some remnants of the previous install (which could be corrected by a "super-remover")? As for the registry - Sophos doesn't "fiddle" with the keys but there are cases of install failures caused by corrupt security settings (I've seen them on the HKLM\Software path as well as on the \Installer tree - don't think that these are Sphos-specific though. As said, a look at the logs might shed some light on the issue.
