Problems with increasing amount of memory being used

Hi,

I have a problem with the memory allocated to the web browsers slowly increasing until my PC runs out of memory and more or less stops working. This problem only occurs when there is a second user logged in who starts a web browser. For the user that first starts a browser this effect does not occur. Since we mostly are two persons using the same PC, this is a real problem. It occurs for all the browsers we have installed (IE, Firefox and Opera). During a period we were also often redirected when clicking on links in Google searches, but this phenomenon has stopped now. I have made both complete scans with Sophos as well as with the rootkit removal tool. A couple of hidden files were found and removed, but to no help. I have also tried other free scanners, such as Malwarebytes, to no avail. Any help would be deeply appreciated.

  • Hi Jak,

Thanks for replying. I am using the home version that came free with the licence we have at work and unfortunately it is free, but does not include any support... I might try contacting them anyway, to see if they might want to help me, but I fear that will not be the case. I will try running AutoRuns, in the hope of understanding more about what goes on.

    cheers,
