Windows 7 Savservice - High CPU

Have a user running Windows 7 and on the weekely scan days, his system becomes unuseable as the savservice climbs past 50% CPU.  One thing I notice from the scan log is that there are multiple events for the Google Chrome Cache follows:

Scanning "C:\Users\pellerin\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Cache\data_0" returned SAV Interface error 0xa0040210: The file could not be accessed.

Has anyone had any experience with this issue, or the issue in general in which they were able to resolve.

Many Thanks,

  • Hi Cathy ,

Have you enabled the "Run scan at lower priority" setting for the scheduled scan?

    Regards,

    Jak

  • Hi Jak,

Thank you for your suggestion. Given that we have not yet upgraded from Console 7, Client 9.5, I don't believe that is an option for me, unless I am not looking in the right place.  Let me know if you believe otherwise.

    Thanks,
    Cathy

  • Good Day Cathy

To srt hte scan a lower priority, please follow the process below:

Open the console | anti-virs & HIPs | Scheduled scan | Click add/edit | Configure | tick 'run at lower priority' | Click ok.

This will let Sophos run at a lower priority, therefore your system resources for Sophos wont be that high to make the system unuseable. The system will priortize the resources.

    hope this helps you

    kind regards

  • Cathy said she's on 9.5 and AFAIK this option has been introduced with 9.7.

  • That is correct.  Thanks all for your suggestions though.  Other projects keep bumping up - pushing out the upgrade of Sophos - sure you all know how that goes.  Need to see about prioritizing so we can take advantage of these new features.
