PC or server?

Hello,

I was wondering, we're having about 400 machines at work. Is it really necessary to have the 'server' installed on a real server, or would it also be possible to run it on a workstation? Those 400 pc's are never running together.

  • From Enterprise Console, switch to the Update Manager view and go into the SUM configuration, you can add an additional distribution location.

Once you have the SUM writing the files to the remote file share on the Linux box you can create a new updating policy to ensure that a couple of test clients can update ok; then maybe link the new updating policy to the others or edit the current one.

The doc here is probably the closest to the info you need:
    http://www.sophos.com/sophos/docs/eng/manuals/sec_47_heng.pdf
    Section 5.1.6.

    Regards,
