PC or server?

Hello,

I was wondering, we're having about 400 machines at work. Is it really necessary to have the 'server' installed on a real server, or would it also be possible to run it on a workstation? Those 400 pc's are never running together.

  • HI,

    The traffic going through the box is either:

    1. updating;
    2. management (RMS).

    RMS will maintain 2 TCP connections per connected client.  So RMS should be ok up to 400 machines plus you say they are never typically all on at the same time.

    The bigger concern would be updating.  You mention that you have Linux servers, it might be better to push a distribution point to a Linux file server you might have.  The updating traffic can then go to that to take some of the load off of the Windows machine.

    Regards,
