Any thoguhts on what Sophos should do to get back in your good graces and/or make up for the significiant number of hours burnt on this issue?

I suggest sending out T-shirts. I'll take a 'I survived the great Sophos Meltdown -2012" in an XL.

Interesting idea, QC.

Sad to inform you that there's likely to be a slight delay on this, as our underwear department is manning the phones.
