New to Sophos deployment, please help!

Hello everyone,

I am working on a Sophos project and we need to deploy Sophos to our clients. I have installed an enterprise console in our network (active directory) and protect all computers from console within our company.

My question is: can I protect our client’’’’s computer from the enterprise console? (Client computers will be sitting behind a firewall and within their own active directory environment).

If yes, the can anyone tell me how to assign the computers to the group since not our clients computers have public IP addresses.

If no, then I assume I need to install an enterprise console on the client side and protect computers from there. Do I use the same Sophos username and password as I did for our internal network? Or do I need to purchase another Sophos product suite?

Thanks.

  • HI,

I would suggest manually deploying to one of the machines first to ensure it can be managed in SEC.  Deployment is just the ability to create a remote scheduled task on the remote machine from SEC in order to run setup.exe from the distribution point.

So I would try a manual install by running setup on a test machine.  Once that's all ok there are plenty of ways to deploy the software if SEC creating a scheduled task fails.

  • Hi Jak,

Thanks for your reply. Do you mean i can manage all our clients computers which are outside our network via one single SEC ?

Do you have any links or documents that have the configuration detail ? As i said, i tried to add computers in SEC but it seems can only add domain or local network computers.

    Thanks.

  • HI,

Possibly, but for it to work you need to get RMS to work over the link so the clients can message the management server.

For example, you may need to setup an external facing message relay in order for the remote clients to be able to talk to the system:

My post here has some information on RMS relating to this:
