How do I stop Sophos from deleting a file?

Hello all,

I have been trying to get a game to run in Steam. Sophos is convinced the launcher.exe file is a malicious and deletes it every time as soon as it is downloaded. I don't see any option to tell it not to delete this file. I tried to beat it to the location in the Authorization window but it was too fast and deleted the file before I could tell it to ignore said file. Does anyone know how to add this file to the "ok" list, and/or how to prevent sophos from just deleting files without asking me first? Thanks

HI,

What options do you have set? I assume it's picked up as a suspicious file?

If you open Sophos, got to: "Configure" -> "Anti-virus" - "On-access scanning"

Hit the cleanup tab, what actions do you have set for finding "Viruses/spyware" and "Suspicious files"?

I would recommend you submit the file to Sophos for analysis.
The false positive counts are few and far between but ...

Follow the below procedure on how to submit:

If it is a confirmed threat, Steam will need to be contacted as soon as possible.
They are the only ones that will be able to provide a new clean exe.
They have been targeted recently (reading up on the sophos 'naked security site')

(Im not fond of Steam, on a standalone non network, 1 user machine to download 1g of updates in our country is absurd.
But each to there own.)

PS: submitting samples is actually an awesome contribution to the world. It is us against the bad guys after all - We need to help out where we can.
