System Requirements for Enterprise Console

Having read a lot about Sophos Endpoint 10 coming out soon, I checked out the knowledgebase for the system requirements for Enterprise Console installation.

Currently we have EC 4.7.0.13 installed on a Windows XP workstation as:

1. It is not recommended to be installed on a domain controller and
2. Even if it was Windows Server 2003 will not allow you to install MS SQL Server 2008R2 (free version).

Now it seems that the specifications no longer include Windows XP for EC only  a minimum of Windows 7 (with XP mode).

It may seem that we're a bit behind the times with our kit, 1 x Windows 2003 Server (Domain Controller) and all PC's running Windows XP, but this kit is less than 5 years old and we as a small business cannot afford to update all the kit just so we can install one or two items of software which have been updated, Sophos is not the only one.

So my question is, can the latest version of Enterprise Controller (whatever that version is) be installed on a Windows XP workstation as it is running for us now and if not, will EC 4.7 support Sophos Endpoint 10 and allow us to continue to use Sophos in this way?

  • Hello Ian,

in no way I ever suggested it could work - so let's state once more this is an unsupported environment ;). And the new managemnt server components do work (didn 't have time during the Beta to gice it a try on XP)?
    Thanks for sharing your experience
