Block specific file from being opened?

Hi All,

Is it possible to set up an "on access" scan for a file we have defined ourselves?

We currently use data control to restrict access to the file if it is copied to a browser/mail client but would like to prevent the file being opened.

Is it possible somehow?

I can see you can add specific files to the exclusion list for suspicious files but it doesn't pick them up or report on them.

Even being able to add the file as an exclusion and then report on it would be fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

P

  • Hello P (emps),

while the On-Access scanner is "abused" for Data Control it's not a universal Audit/Access Control tool. Besides, an exclusion is an exclusion and it's applied "below" the scanner (i.e. the scanner isn't aware that a file has been excluded and thus can't report it).

but [I] would like to prevent the file being opened

:smileytongue: well, perhaps remove it ??? :smileyvery-happy: Seriously - if you want the file to be inaccessible - why not set the security accordingly? But you're probably up to something bigger.

  • Thank you, as I thought, I expected the scanner to not be able to see the file to pick it up and therefore report on it.

I will go back to the drawing board.

    Thank you.
