Migration tool install - DB and Console installed on separate servers

Hi

We are about to install the Sophos Central Migration Tool - reading the doco I see that we need to have the Sophos DB and Management Server on the same server:

"

How does the migration tool work?

The migration tool must be installed and run by the Administrator, on the server where Sophos Enterprise Console (management server and database) or Sophos Control Center is installed.

"

However I have these roles on 2 x different boxes.

Is it easier to move the management server to the SQL server or the other way around?

Any links on how to do this?

Thanks, M

  • Hi

That is correct. The Central Migration Tool currently does not support remote databases. We currently are working on a version that will work with remote databases but we have no ETA at the moment.

Your option would be to either create a database on the Sophos Enterprise Console server, and migrate the DB over

You may follow this KBA guide (but instead of another SQL server, it would be to your local server): How to move a database from one Remote SQL Server to another in a Distributed Environment

    or

You can run the Sophos Central Installer on all of your managed endpoints. To do this you would have to disable Tamper Protection on all the endpoints first and would need to run the installer downloaded from Sophos Central, and not the one emailed to them.

    Thanks,
