Default Sophos Central Bandwidth limit of 33.1 KB/s?

Can someone tell me why the default bandwidth Usage is 256Kb/s a.k.a. 33.1KB a second?

  • If you're not using a Sophos Update Cache [https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/122577], and all computers are going through a single connection/proxy without caching, then on a major software update (50-200MB, depending on the number of updated components) it could overwhelm the network in a sudden spike.

    For the standard 5-7 ides a day at 10-30KB each it does't really matter.

    I think it's just a play it safe option but I can see it taking a long time to perform a major update at that speed.  Around 2 hrs for 200MB but these are pretty infrequent and tends to be much less than that.
