can't "clean up manually" can anyone help?

when I have an item labeled 'Clean up manually', I select the item in Quarantine Manager and make a note of the Path and Filename I see that the file name ends with "…" indicating only the first part of the path is indicated. How can I find the full path? and when I select "reveal in finder" it opens a window but the file is not visible, I hit control shift period and it still does not show up. Please help me get rid of this threat. Thanks

  • What's the path and file name as they are given to you. What OS? If you can get the path written in the proper syntax (for example /System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics), then just enter it in Go to Folder, Cmd-Shift-G, and even if it's invisible it should show up.

  • ank you for taking the time to read and reply, I really appreciate it.

Mac OS 10.7.5 and I cannot discover the path beyond what is displayed in the window, ie I only see the first part of the path and it ends with "…" before actually displaying the filename, indicating only the first part of the path is indicated. How can I find the full path? and when I select "reveal in finder" it opens a window but the file is not visible, I hit control shift period and it still does not show up.

  • What's the item that needs to be cleaned? Even though it's incomplete, can you give me everything as they appear, path + file name? Perhaps I can figure out what that's meant to be.

I'm not sure what you are trying to do with Ctrl-Shift-dot, which, btw, is incorrect. Should be Cmd-Shift-dot. And that only works to show invisibles from within an application. And I'm not sure why you think the file is invisible. Anyway, for that see

Besides the listing in Quarantine, have you visited the Sophos log in Console.app (in Utilities)/Library/Logs? Might be a complete entry there.

  • Thanks again for your help. I rescanned to get the information and the threat appeared in the quarantine window again and I clicked on "clean up" again and what do you know this time it cleaned it up, I guess because it disappeared from the quarantine window.

    Does that make sense?
