How to upgrade Sophos from version 8 to version 9?

I installed Sophos AV for Mac about 3 days ago and it installed as version 8.0.16C, but Sophos web site shows version 9 - running the Sophos update does not install the new version.

Any suggestions as to why Sophos application is not upgrading and as to how to manually upgrade?

    From what I remember, it takes Sophos a long time to put full version upgrades into the automatic upgrade channel.  For the enterprise app, Sophos 7 was not automatically updated until Sophos 8.0.8 was out.

    That said, you probably can manually download the 9.0 installer and install that over 8 -- that will either work as expected, or it won't upgrade at all...

    We don't "force" the most current version onto all users until we gain confidence that its not going to cause significant pain. This is standard practice for software vendors.

    Just like maser says, you can run the version 9.0 home edition installer over an existing version 8.0 home edition and it will upgrade you.
