Should I update to Version 8

I have version 7.3.10C of the free home edition on my iMac.  The Sophos info says I will be automatically updated to version 8.  This has not happened.  However, I wonder if I  should even initiate a manual update to version 8.  Are there enough advantages to offset known and unresolved bugs?

  • Hello Bob, automatic upgrade to v8 was initially planned for second half of may or so. Meanwhile - as you know - some issues have surfaced which will have to be corrected first. Neither the ability to schedule scans nor Live Protection (as useful as it is) would IMO warrant a manual upgrade to v8 right now - again, this is my personal opinion (in case you wonder, I'm running v8 - without problems - but in a corporate environment and none of the "sophisticated" applications and features like TM, Bootcamp and their ilk ;-) ...) • Thanks for that helpful perspective.  There must be an axiom somewhere:  "Never be too quick to upgrade".

  • I have an older iMac on 10.4.11 and was using the same version 7.3.10C of Sophos AV without problem.

Since I thought that the updater had failed in some way (not being used to Sophos' way of working, yet) I manually updated to V8x. So far there are no problems. Apart from the 'shield' having a central 's' rather than bars there is outward difference. V8 did pick up the list of custom scans but failed to recognise they had been done. It reports that all the scans had never been run. So far, so good!
