Daily updates on Sophos 9.0.1

Hi there

I have Sophos 9.0.1 on my Mac and I never see it uploading daily updates. Sometimes I leave my Mac on standby and sometimes switch it off at night. Do I have to go to the the Sophos Antivirus heading in the top bar menu and click on 'update now' or is it all automatic?

Any help appreciated.

  • It's what Sophos offers and it's meant to be a real benefit. McAfee (for example) only updates once a day.  McAfee says (in their FAQ on DAT file updates)...

Quote: There has been an exponential rise in the number, propagation rate, and prevalence of new threats. The same applies to the number of virus submissions, the rate of new malware development, and the number of emergency DAT releases. The growing number and variety of threats make it vital that you update your DAT files on a daily basis.

Sophos believe this too, but clearly once a day isn't enough.  Malware can hit your computer extremely fast and hence Sophos takes the line that shorter intervals are better.  Remember:  the software checks every hour, if there isn't anything new then it doesn't update and just shuts down immediately.  And I would assume that more updates means smaller updates, hence you don't get a big block of updates trying to install every 24-hours (probably just when I'm doing something important knowing my luck).

You can change it to X days if you prefer - the settings are there to be tweaked if you want.
