Sophos is all screwed up ... hangs in processing

I'm using OS X 10.8.2.

Downloaded Sophos Mac yesterday.

Tried check local, hung on a file for 3 hrs. Couldn't "Stop Scan", so forced it out.

Did a Sophos update, took 2 external drives offline, tried again ... didn't complete scan by morning.

Today, uninstalled, then downloaded and installed again. With 2 external HDs offline tried local check again.

Seems to be hung on a file again... just sitting there (same file for at least 1/2 hr.).

Log doesn't say what it's hung on, and Stop Scan doesn't work.

Total screwup near as I can tell.

Maybe some other product will work?

  • I eventully DID get my booting HD checked, but I had to try 7 times, and had to watch it like a hawk. I had to click the window periodically to keep it alive. If it seemed to be stalled (if it didn't move on to the next after item 20-30 min.), then I'd click on the progress bar, and it seemed to restart.

    Found nothing wrong.

I tried to do an external HD with 3.5 million items in it (Time Machine backup vault), but it died at 3 million after well over an hour. I'd have to set aside a WHOLE DAY to be able to run this on that drive!!!

    What a nightmare!!!

  • BTW, the icon is greyed out, and I can't get it black again.

I'd read about somebody who reloaded the software to get that working again.

In my case, that hasn't worked. So, the autochecking function just doesn't work.

I'd heard good things about this software. What I have here is, frankly, UNACCEPTABLE!!

I'm obviously going to uninstall it and look for something else.....

  • Same problem here, however, it started up on its own after waiting a while. Glad it did, tried it with EHD and it hung for 2 hrs half way!
This time, without the EHD, and its good sofar, still running though.
I will re- try the EHD by itself later...
