on access scanner is off

"your mac may not be secure". any suggestions on how to get this to remain on? Offline, I  removed program that would not allow me to change the on-access settilng, and opened the file. Then went back online and am updating. What am I missing? thanks.

  • I've had the same problem. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling, and then it was fine…until I updated it. That's when it started both times — when I updated it. As soon as the update is done, the icon goes grey, and then I cannot turn on On-Access Scanning. The button for turning it on is greyed out, and it says "Stop Scanning" anyway.
