Can't Clean or Delete Malware in Quarantine Manager; No Filename or Path in Logs

So I have malware on my Computer -- Andr/FakeIns-O and Mal/ASFDldr-A -- It is a Macbook Air running 10.7.5 with the latest version of SOPHOS. I can't clean the threat from my computer. Clearing them from the list, they just come back. It just says it could not cleanup the threat after "cleaning" for a long time. When I go into the SOPHOS logs, to look for the path, this is what I find:

com.sophos.intercheck: 2014-06-28 09:03:54 -0400 Threat: 'Mal/ASFDldr-A' detected in

com.sophos.intercheck: 2014-08-04 14:09:02 -0400 Threat: 'Andr/FakeIns-O' detected in
com.sophos.intercheck: 2014-08-04 22:34:24 -0400 Threat: 'Andr/FakeIns-O' detected in

Can anyone help me figure out how to rid myself of these threats? I am ready to reset my computer back to factory but what good would that do if Time Machine will just put the same files with the malware back on the computer.  Thanks!

  • If may be worth:

    1. Clearing out your browser's cache (if you use Safari 'reset' it for example).
    2. Close all your browser windows down (quite the app or apps).
    3. Close down any mail app.
    4. Disconnect any external drives (Time Machine, USB, firewire, etc.)
    5. Go into the Quarantine Manager and 'clear' all of the items from the list - not cleanup.
    6. Run a 'Scan This Mac' scan to see what comes back.

Hopefully that scan doesn't return anything but if it does hopefully the paths are mentioned.  If not post back an extract of the log showing what is detected.

If all is clear with that scan you can plug in external drives again and scan just that.  See the video on scanning for more details if required.
