confused about how to manually remove

I just ran a scan for the first time. The results show 21 threats, most MALRorpian-D and some trojans, which are all Windows viruses. Problem is, I can't find those documents. When I use searchlight, it doesn't find any of them. I have searched in e-mail as well. No such docs.

Now I do run VMWare fusion and have XP installed but still, those files have to live somewhere on my HD and Sophos for Mac does not show the path to the docs.  They all have to be deletd manually and I can't find them.. So should I ignore these warnings or what?

Thank you.

  • The files are likely in your ~/Library/Mail/V2/ folder, if you're accessing your mail from Mail.app.  If you're using Safari, these files will be in your ~/Library/Caches folder.

However, we've got a very detailed thread on here about temporary items in the Caches folder -- the most likely situation is that these files keep coming and going and have no fixed location.  If this is the case, the detections should eventually vanish from the Quarantine Manager of their own accord.  If not, the following should work:

In the Finder, hold down the Option key and select the Go menu.  Part way down the list will be a Library folder.  Select it.

In the Sophos app, create a custom scan, and then drag the Caches and Mail folders from the Finder window to the Scan Items tab in your custom scan.
